Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP is seeking a committed, highly organized associate attorney with 0-3 years of legal experience to join the bankruptcy practice team in the Houston, Texas office. LGBS is a nationwide law firm representing governmental entities for the collection of their delinquent receivables.

Job Overview:

The primary purpose of this position is to represent the Firm’s property tax clients in bankruptcy cases and adversary proceedings, in both consumer and commercial cases filed under all chapters under Title 11 of the United States Code. The candidate will be expected to quickly grasp legal concepts of both bankruptcy law and Texas property tax law and understand various court rules and procedures as they apply to the cases at hand.

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in Texas
  • Must have a valid driver license, reliable vehicle and insurance.
  • Candidate may have to travel to court hearings within Houston and to other areas within the State.
  • Candidate may have to attend conferences and client events.

Essential Functions:

  • Draft legal documents, including pleadings, correspondence, and internal memos
  • Communicate with opposing counsel, trustees, individual taxpayer/debtors, and court staff
  • Legal research of relevant case law, statutes, and procedural rules, including Federal Rules of Evidence, Bankruptcy Rules and Procedures, Texas Tax Code, and appropriate local rules and forms
  • Manage a high-volume bankruptcy caseload, which includes the monitoring and handling of deadlines and court hearings in coordination with the Bankruptcy Team. Specifically, this will also require the timely review and handling of proofs of claim, various motions, claim objections, plans, and post-confirmation matters, in addition to other issues that may arise.
  • Engage in negotiation and settlement discussions with opposing parties
  • Prepare for litigation by conducting complete factual investigations and gathering evidence
  • Prepare for and attend court hearings and other legal proceedings as needed

Knowledge, skills and abilities will be necessary for this position to succeed

  • Texas Bar License and in Good Standing with the State Bar and all Bankruptcy Courts
  • Strong knowledge of legal principles and procedures
  • Proficiency in legal research and writing
  • Familiarity with legal drafting and administrative tasks
  • Ability to communicate professionally, written and verbal, with counsel, clients, and court officials
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide recommendations
  • Ability to recognize and shift priorities
  • Extremely detail-oriented with strong organization skills
  • Ability to learn and handling multiple software systems and databases
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Supervisory responsibilities and independent discretion:

  • Candidate will oversee the work product of paralegals, clerks and researchers and do so in a timely manner to meet all court deadlines and any internal deadlines.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
