Associate Attorney - Coverage & Bad Faith

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Associate Attorney to join our dynamic legal team. The Insurance Coverage and Bad Faith Associate is responsible for assisting in the analysis, litigation, and resolution of complex insurance coverage disputes and bad faith claims. Reporting to the Practice Group Chair, this position plays a key role in drafting coverage opinions, preparing pleadings and motions, conducting legal research, and supporting discovery and trial preparation.

Duties

  • Provide legal consultation to clients on insurance coverage and bad faith matters, including claims under general liability, professional liability, property, and umbrella policies;
  • Develop and maintain client relationships, communicating regularly regarding the status of matters through resolution;
  • Draft, negotiate, and explain legal pleadings, coverage opinions, reservation of rights letters, denial letters, and other litigation-related documents;
  • Represent clients in negotiations;
  • Exhibit sound and timely billing practices;
  • Maintain active membership with Indiana Bar, complete all required Continuing Legal Education requirements, follow the ethical requirements as set forth by the Rules of Professional Conduct, and adhere to all requirements of the Firm’s professional liability insurer;
  • Participate in client development activities, including individual and Firm sponsored activities with peers and supervisors;
  • Maintain and cultivate services for existing insurance clients and actively pursue new business opportunities;
  • Demonstrate the highest level of commitment to the Firm, the Bar and the community.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Good standing status with the Indiana Bar;
  • Ability to successfully manage a coverage/bad faith litigation practice and maintain a track record of productivity and profitability;
  • Excellent client-service attitude and strong work ethic;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong legal research, critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to meet internal and external deadlines, and to work effectively independently or in a team environment with all personnel levels within the Firm;
  • Commitment and ability to support senior attorneys to best serve client needs and drive business development;
  • Professionalism, discretion and a stellar reputation within the legal community.
