Associate Attorney - Criminal Defense

We are seeking a highly motivated attorney who is committed to providing zealous advocacy for our clients. The ideal candidate will work closely with their legal assistant to ensure clear and consistent client communication. This role requires exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills. All attorneys are expected to maintain a professional appearance and decorum in both the courtroom and the office, while also demonstrating a collaborative and team-oriented approach with colleagues.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 2-5+ years of criminal defense experience.
  • Licensing: Must be an active member in good standing with the State Bar of California and admitted to practice law in California.

Core Competencies:

  • Criminal Defense Expertise: Experience in handling a variety of criminal cases, including misdemeanors, felonies, resentencing, and post-conviction matters. Some trial experience is preferred, as well as familiarity with contested motions and DUI/vehicle-related crimes, including DMV-APS hearings.
  • Professionalism & Demeanor: Possesses a poised, polished, and professional appearance. Demonstrates excellent courtroom presence and maintains a professional and empathetic demeanor in all client interactions.
  • Legal & Analytical Skills: Possesses strong legal research, writing, and strategic analysis skills. Capable of evaluating cases, developing effective defense strategies, and producing high-quality work product.
  • Communication & Negotiation: Has excellent verbal communication and negotiation skills.
  • Organizational & Time Management: Is exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and able to effectively manage time and multitask. Must be able to handle a demanding caseload from the initial client consultation through case completion.
  • Autonomy: Possesses the ability to work with minimal to no supervision.
  • Technical Skills: Is tech-savvy and computer literate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attending daily court appearances at various courthouses.
  • Handling a diverse caseload of misdemeanors, felonies, and post-conviction cases.
  • Conducting jury trials.
  • Visiting clients in jail as necessary.
  • Performing legal research and writing, including drafting motions, as well as contributing to firm blogs or articles.
  • Attending and conducting DMV-APS hearings.
  • Performing case evaluations and strategic analysis of cases.
  • Conducting client consultations and providing compassionate legal guidance.
  • Complying with all firm policies and procedures, along with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Other duties as assigned.

***Compensation will be determined based on experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
