Associate Designer

SLD is an award-winning interior design and interior architecture studio in Northern California that specializes in high end residential and boutique hospitality design. Our work is centered around collaboration, reflection, creativity, and authenticity. We are a close-knit studio looking for a new team member to grow with long term.

The primary role of the Associate Designer is to develop design skills and project management skills, and proficiency in all relevant areas, while supporting the Principal and Senior Designers on projects. This is a robust role requiring a variety of responsibilities and tasks. We are looking for proactive, committed, and organized individuals with a keen eye for detail and an ability to wear multiple hats - someone willing to do what it takes to get the job done.

This is a full-time exempt position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with Principal and Senior Designers from Concept through Completion.
  • Project manage as it relates to all phases of design. Establish and monitor project timelines and budgets, prepare and oversee design and construction schedules, assist in the preparation of design boards, and source and presentmaterials. Anticipate needs of clients and colleagues.
  • Keep all parties informed of significant details and events. Maintain continual communication with Principal, Senior Designers and project team regarding project and client details.
  • Help manage client engagement and correspondence. Communicate effectively and efficiently with clients, teammates and external project partners
  • Track project scope, timelines, and budgets
  • Create and manage drawing sets, working documents, presentation materials, finish schedules, specifications, templates, schedules, and shop drawings.
  • Prep for project installations through high level coordination with the design team, photographers, contractors, and clients.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or Architecture
  • 3+ years working in high-end residential or hospitality design with well-rounded exposure to all aspects of residential design
  • Fluency in SketchUp, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft 365; fluency in AI software is a plus
  • Experience in event planning or logistics coordination is a plus
  • Refined visual presentation skills
  • Demonstrated skills in project management with strong organizational skills and comprehensive follow-through to keep projects within budget + on schedule. Construction administration experience is a plus
  • Project experience that includes the submission of drawing sets, including but not limited to specifications, technical production, and basic code knowledge.
  • Professional and persuasive communicator who is comfortable communicating with clients, contractors, and vendors. Ability to form trusting relationships with clients, teammates, and external partners.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, highly organized, and the ability to multitask effectively while remaining accurate and consistent in all paperwork and data management
  • Demonstrated ability to determine relevance, prioritize tasks, juggle multiple projects, and delegate when necessary
  • A flexible, proactive, positive “can-do” attitude and the ability to stay calm under pressure
  • Skilled in visual research, material sourcing, and specification. Custom furniture design is a plus
  • Passion for thoughtful design
  • Knowledge of Studio IT or Studio Designer Software is a plus

Pay: $65,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
