Job Description
POLITICO is looking for a social-first video producer who knows how to move fast and make smart, compelling journalism feel native to TikTok and Instagram Reels to join our audio/video team.
You’ll work closely with the POLITICO video team and reporters across the newsroom to turn the biggest political stories of the day into sharp, scroll-stopping video our for social platforms that reach millions of viewers each month — from explainers and interviews to smart clip selections pulled from longer-form YouTube shows.

Who You Are
- A fast, self-sufficient storyteller who can produce, shoot, edit and publish vertical video — often all in the same day
- Deeply tuned in to how news travels online, with strong instincts for what makes political coverage scroll-stopping, clear and engaging for social audiences
- Fluent in the language of the internet and comfortable translating complex political stories into sharp, compelling short-form video.

The kind of person who can watch who a Senate hearing and immediately sees the 27-second moment that will take off on TikTok
- Produce end-to-end vertical video for TikTok and Instagram Reels — from pitch to publish
- Identify smart, social-native angles on breaking news and enterprise stories
- Clip and repackage moments from longer-form POLITICO shows into compelling, platform-optimized short videos
- Shoot interviews and standups as needed (often quickly and scrappily)
- Write sharp scripts, headlines and social copy that are accurate, clear and platform-aware
- Publish content and manage workflows to ensure speed without sacrificing quality
- Experiment with new editing tools, formats and production workflows to make social output faster and stronger
- Track performance metrics and use them to refine approach and strategy

Collaborate with reporters, editors and the broader video team to identify opportunities for social storytelling
- At least 2 years of experience producing and editing video, ideally for social-first news platform
- Strong editing skills (Premiere, ideally). You should be comfortable turning around polished vertical video quickly and independently
- An interest in exploring new social-first publishing and editing workflows
- A native understanding of TikTok and Instagram — what hooks viewers, what holds attention and what falls flat
- Sharp editorial judgment and strong news instincts
- The ability to simplify complex political or policy stories without oversimplifying them
- Comfort working on tight deadlines and juggling multiple projects at once

Knowledge of politics and policy news. Fluency is a major plus.
