We are professional, compassionate, agile and our goal is to provide excellent representation to indigent people charged with misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor in the Cities of Burlington, Mt. Vernon, and Sedro-Woolley in Skagit County, Washington. We also handle public defense for the Cities of Bellingham, Everson, Sumas, and Lynden in Whatcom County, Washington.

Consistent with the newly adopted Standards for Indigent Defense we are adding three (3) new Associate Attorney positions to join our team. We have one position in our Burlington office that is available immediately. We have another position in our Burlington Office as well as a position in our Bellingham Office that will be funded starting January 1st, 2026. The ideal candidate will have experience in both negotiating and litigating cases but experience is not required. We are happy to train attorneys to become fierce litigators!

Duties:

- Represent clients in legal proceedings, such as hearings, trials, and interviews/depositions

- Conduct legal research and provide legal advice to clients- Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients

- Draft legal documents, such as motions and settlement offers.

- Attend court hearings such as arraignments, pre-trial hearings, and trials.

Qualifications:

- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school

- Admitted to practice law in Washington State where the position is located

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
