The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is currently hiring a Supervising Management Auditor position within our Office of Compliance. In this role, you will serve as the Audit & Accountability Branch Chief and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing a comprehensive audit program. This includes, but is not limited to, oversight of internal and external audits of CDPH-administered programs and subrecipients receiving federal and state public health funding.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all internal and external audit activities, ensuring quality control by reviewing work papers, reports, and related correspondence, and report identified issues to the Department’s executive leadership
  • Develop and maintain the annual audit plan in consultation with the Deputy Director and Chief Audit Executive (DD, CAE)
  • Lead risk assessments conducted for executive leadership, including ongoing monitoring of the audit plan’s progress and adjusting priorities based on emerging risk
  • Deliver written and verbal presentations to executive leadership within the Department and the California Health & Human Services Agency (Agency)
  • Track and evaluate management’s corrective actions in response to reported deficiencies to ensure they are adequate and effective
  • Plan, organize, and lead ongoing grant compliance audit activities, including setting workload priorities and providing continuous coaching and development to staff
  • Ensure audit work meets established quantity and quality standards and collaborate closely with Center/Division/Office (CDO) leadership to fulfill mandated audit requirements, and to coordinate and review written responses to audit findings and recommendations
  • Oversee the Department’s investigative functions, including whistleblower and administrative investigations involving misuse of state property, abuse of time, and conflicts of interest
  • Serve as the Department’s subject matter expert on audit, governance, risk management, and internal controls
  • Develop and manage a Quality Assurance and Improvement Program (QAIP) to ensure the Audit & Accountability Branch complies with professional standards established by the Institute of Internal Auditors and Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards
