Automation Engineering Manager
The role
We're looking for a hands-on engineering leader to own the full automation landscape across our aluminum casting and machining operations. You'll lead a team of controls engineers and technicians, drive our automation strategy, and play a central role in our Industry 4.0 transformation — from PLC systems and robotics to MES integration and predictive maintenance.
This isn't a purely strategic role. We want someone equally comfortable presenting a capital project roadmap and rolling up their sleeves on the shop floor when a casting line goes down.
What you'll lead
Controls & automation
-
PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI/SCADA, robotics (FANUC, ABB, KUKA), and system integration across casting and machining lines
Project delivery
-
Capital automation projects from concept through commissioning — managing budgets, timelines, integrators, and vendors
Continuous improvement
-
OEE, cycle time, scrap reduction — supporting Lean, Six Sigma, and digital transformation initiatives
Team development
-
Mentoring automation engineers and technicians, building capability and a culture of innovation
What we're looking for
-
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or related field
-
7–10+ years in automation/controls engineering, with 3–5+ years in a leadership role
-
Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting experience (Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens)
-
Robotics integration experience in casting or machining environments
-
Foundry, die casting, or heavy industrial manufacturing background preferred
-
Familiarity with MES, ERP integration, and data analytics platforms
-
Lean / Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt) desirable
