Automation Hardware Lead

About the role

As an Automation Hardware Lead, you will make an impact by leading and designing automation hardware systems. You will be a valued member of the Life Sciences team and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless data integration and transformation processes.

In this role, you will:

  • Define hardware architecture and ensure integrator designs meet program standards.
  • Develop and maintain reference architectures for DCS and PLC systems.
  • Define hardware design requirements and specifications for control panels and automation networks.
  • Coordinate integration of OEM skid systems.
  • Liaise with IT and engineering firms to ensure cohesive automation network design.
  • Provide technical support across projects and coordinate interfaces with other program groups.
  • Support preparation of RFPs for automation hardware delivery and perform technical analysis of proposals.
  • Conduct technical evaluations of hardware suppliers and witness Factory Acceptance Tests.
  • Develop hardware qualification strategies and change control procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, CSV, and internal validation policies.
  • Maintain hardware design and testing standards and templates.
  • Maintain documentation standards and communicate hardware-related issues to program leadership
  • Communicate progress, issues, and needs to the overall program automation leader.

What you need to have to be considered:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Automation, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 8–10 years working with DeltaV DCS architectures.
  • Strong understanding of control strategy development and hardware integration.
  • Familiarity with automation network design and control panel engineering.
  • Prior experience leading hardware efforts in large pharmaceutical or biotech automation programs.
  • Deep knowledge of GMP, regulatory requirements, and computer system validation.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

Salary and Other Compensation

Applications will be accepted until October 1, 2025.

The annual salary for this position is between $70,000 - $130,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
