Automation Systems Technician, Optimus

What to Expect
The Optimus Equipment Engineering team seeks a highly motivated Automation Systems Technician to build, troubleshoot, improve, and sustain custom automation used to build humanoid robots and sub-systems. This role will work side by side with engineers to reduce costs, increase capacity, and deliver quality products. You will perform failure analysis, lead Design of Experiments (DoE) testing, and compile documentation to communicate findings and results. The successful candidate will have a broad background in mechatronics, maintenance, and testing applied in an industrial environment such as automotive or precision medical devices. They must be capable of translating concepts into practical applications with limited guidance, be able to work efficiently independently or in a team environment, and be self-motivated.

What You'll Do
  • Assembly of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic failures, identifying root causes and implementing corrective action
  • Support testing activities, including developing test plans, building jigs and testing/validation systems, debugging hardware, and quantifying performance metrics
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, providing detailed written and verbal updates to key stakeholders, such as testing results or shift passdowns
  • Maintain exceptional change control discipline in a rapidly evolving product and manufacturing environment
  • Maintain a clean and organized manufacturing area, ensuring all necessary tools, components, and materials needed to sustain production equipment are properly stocked
  • Support a high-volume production environment, prioritizing safety and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) metrics

What You'll Bring
  • 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Technician in fields of: Robotics, Automotive Service, Precision Medical Devices, R&D, and/or Manufacturing, with a demonstrated history of analytical problem solving and failure analysis
  • Previous hands-on experience with hand and power tools, high & low voltage systems, wire harnesses assembly and repair, mechanical components, electro-mechanical devices, soldering irons, wire crimping tools, DMM multi-meters, and oscilloscopes
  • Able to interpret electrical schematics. Capable of creating an electrical harness from scratch
  • Familiarity with working principles of sensors (i.e. camera, IMU, loadcells), linux file systems and command interfaces, and Git framework
  • Must be able to use Microsoft office and project management software (i.e. Excel, Word, PPT, JIRA, etc.)
  • Although not required, experience with CAD software (e.g. Solidworks, CATIA), electrical design software (e.g. EPLAN, Atium), fabrication/machining, 3D printing, laser cutting, CAN and EtherCAT communication, Python, and/or Tesla firmware diagnostic tools (e.g. UDSGUI, CANape, Garage) is a plus
  • Must be able to lift 37 lbs., be able to climb ladders, and work a compressed workweek schedule as part of a 24/7 operation with occasional travel (up to 10%)

Expected Compensation
$32.00 - $48.27/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
