Job Summary

Blue Harbor Babysitting Co. is hiring experienced babysitters and nannies (“First Mates”) for flexible part-time positions on Long Beach Island (LBI), NJ.

Our First Mates provide high-quality childcare for visiting and local families in private homes, vacation rentals, and beachfront locations. Many of our sessions include our popular First Mate beach shifts, where caregivers assist families while children enjoy time playing near the ocean.

Blue Harbor caregivers create safe, engaging, and memorable experiences for children while families enjoy their time at the shore. Sessions may involve caring for infants through school-aged children depending on the family’s needs.

This is a flexible W-2 employee position with weekly payroll and session-based scheduling. Shifts vary based on family demand and sitter availability.

Responsibilities

• Provide attentive supervision to ensure children’s safety and well-being
• Plan fun, engaging, age-appropriate activities
• Assist with snacks, light meals, and basic clean-up
• Support nap times, diapering, toileting, and hygiene routines
• Follow family instructions regarding schedules and routines
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized caregiving environment
• Communicate professionally with families during each session
• Represent Blue Harbor Babysitting Co. with professionalism, reliability, and warmth

First Mate Beach Sessions

Some sessions may take place outdoors near the ocean or on the beach while families relax nearby.

First Mates should be comfortable:

• Working in beach environments
• Supervising children playing in sand and near shoreline areas
• Staying attentive in outdoor settings during summer weather

Water safety awareness and comfort in beach environments are strongly preferred.

Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of childcare experience preferred (babysitting, nannying, daycare, camps, teaching, etc.)
• Experience with infants, toddlers, and school-aged children
• CPR & First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
• Must be willing to pass a background check
• Must be willing to submit to occasional drug testing if requested
• Strong communication skills and ability to follow childcare protocols
• Positive, proactive attitude and ability to jump in and assist families when needed

This position is not a referral model. Caregivers are hired as W-2 employees representing Blue Harbor Babysitting Co. directly.

Scheduling & Pay

• Flexible scheduling — choose the sessions you accept
• Pay: $23–$25 per hour depending on session type
• Weekly payroll
• Session-based shifts (daytime beach care, evening babysitting, vacation care)
• Opportunities for recurring families and seasonal work

We prefer year-round sitters, but reliable seasonal summer candidates may also be considered.
