Backend Software Engineer (Node.js / Ruby on Rails)

Job Summary

We are seeking a talented and motivated Node.js / Ruby on Rails Developer with 3+ years of professional experience to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in building scalable web applications, developing RESTful APIs, integrating third-party services, and working in an agile development environment. The candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Node.js and/or Ruby on Rails.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Develop secure, high-performance, and maintainable applications.
• Integrate third-party APIs and external services.
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Write clean, reusable, and well-documented code following best practices.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure coding standards are maintained.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues.
• Work closely with Product Managers, QA Engineers, and Frontend Developers.
• Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and agile ceremonies.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and recommend improvements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of professional experience in backend development using Node.js and/or Ruby on Rails.
• Strong understanding of JavaScript (ES6+) and asynchronous programming.
• Experience with Express.js or similar Node.js frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of Ruby on Rails architecture, MVC pattern, and Active Record.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Strong understanding of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Experience with Git version control.
• Familiarity with authentication mechanisms such as JWT and OAuth.
• Understanding of software design patterns and clean coding principles.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Docker and containerized applications.
• Knowledge of Redis, Sidekiq, or background job processing.
• Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding of GraphQL is a plus.
• Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks.
• Exposure to microservices architecture.
