The Boise Co-op is looking for a dependable and flexible Bakery Lead to guide our bakery team, ensure top-quality products, and uphold the Co-op’s high standards for excellence and customer service.
This hands-on role blends creativity and leadership in a fast-paced, community-focused environment.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Prepare and bake approved recipes while maintaining consistency and quality.
  • Plan production schedules based on forecasted sales and department needs.
  • Maintain strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Train and coach bakery staff on procedures, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Minimize waste through accurate pars, sampling, and shrink tracking.
  • Order and rotate products according to vendor schedules and deadlines.
  • Participate in inventories and inspections to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Communicate daily updates, notes, and coaching opportunities via Microsoft Teams and email.
  • Collaborate with Deli, Kitchen, and Front of House teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Demonstrate leadership through engagement, communication, and proactive problem-solving.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Strong dependability and flexibility, with willingness to adjust to changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in baking methods, knife use, and food preparation.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Teams and Office.
Education and Experience
  • Three or more years of bakery or food production experience.
  • Previous leadership or training experience strongly desired.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Food Handlers Card required
  • Knife Safety knowledge and ServSafe certification preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to work on your feet for extended periods and perform regular physical tasks such as bending, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, and operating standard bakery or office equipment. Frequent hand and arm motions, including reaching above shoulders, are essential. Proper use of PPE is required when handling equipment, and employees must be able to climb step stools or ladders safely as needed.
Working Environment
Work is performed in a fast-paced grocery store setting with frequent customer interaction and interruptions.
