Position Summary:
The Bar Manager is responsible for the overall operation, profitability, and membership experience of the West Lounge Bar. This position is a hands-on position and will manage the bartenders, lounge servers, and overall beverage program development to exceed the service standards of The Country Club of Birmingham. This position is a full-time position that will include health benefits, PTO, sick and personal time, and offers a hospitality schedule without late week-night hours, supporting a balanced work environment.
Salary Range: $60,000 + annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Bar Operations
- Oversee daily bar operations, ensuring efficient service and a welcoming atmosphere.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and presentation in all bar areas.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal alcohol service regulations.
- Monitor bar/lounge performance and implement improvements to enhance service and member satisfaction.
Staff Management
- Assist the Food & Beverage Manager in hiring, training, scheduling and supervision of bartenders, lounges servers, and barback.
- Provide ongoing training on service standards, product knowledge, and responsible alcohol service.
- Conduct performance evaluations, alongside Food & Beverage Manager, and provide coaching to improve team performance.

Inventory & Cost Control
- Monitor beverage costs and implement strategies to control waste and maintain profitability.
- Develop systems to track and address cost of goods concerns.
- Assist management team in controlling inventory and ordering.
Beverage Program Development
- Create and maintain a beverage menu including cocktails, wine, beer, and specialty offerings.
- Assist management in seasonal or club-specific beverage promotions or events
- Work with Purchasing Manager, Food and Beverage Director and vendors/distributors to source quality products at competitive prices.
Member Service
- Engage with club members and build relationships to anticipate their needs and preferences.
- Ensure a high level of personalized service and attention to detail
- Address member feedback and resolve service issues promptly and professionally.
Financial and Administrative Duties
- Monitor bar/lounge sales and prepare reports for management
- Assist in developing and managing the bar budget
- Ensure proper POS procedures are followed
Qualifications:
- Previous experience managing a bar, preferably in a resort, private club or upscale restaurant environment.
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Extensive knowledge of spirits, wine, beer, and cocktail preparation
- Experience with beverage inventory management and cost control.
- Excellent communication and service skills
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift at least 40 lbs.
