The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving a variety of hot and cold beverages, maintaining a clean and welcoming café environment, and delivering exceptional customer service. This role requires attention to detail, a passion for coffee and hospitality, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Beverage Preparation:
- Prepare and serve a range of specialty coffee, tea, and other beverages according to standardized recipes.
- Operate espresso machines, grinders, blenders, and other equipment.
- Experiment with latte art and improve presentation skills.
- Customer Service:
- Greet customers warmly and create a positive experience.
- Take accurate orders and answer questions about menu items.
- Handle customer complaints and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
- Cash Handling:
- Operate the cash register, process payments, and provide accurate change.
- Maintain accountability for cash and transactions during shifts.
- Inventory and Supplies:
- Monitor stock levels of coffee beans, syrups, milk, and other supplies.
- Restock items as needed and inform the manager of low inventory.
- Assist in receiving and organizing stock deliveries.
- Cleanliness and Hygiene:
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation at all times.
- Clean equipment, utensils, and café seating areas regularly.
- Adhere to health and safety standards for food handling and sanitation.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with teammates to ensure smooth operations.
- Support colleagues during busy shifts by multitasking effectively.
- Communicate openly about tasks and customer needs.
- Menu Knowledge:
- Stay informed about menu changes, seasonal offerings, and promotions.
- Make recommendations based on customer preferences and dietary needs.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a coffee shop or food service is preferred but not required.
- Technical Skills:
- Basic knowledge of coffee brewing techniques and equipment operation.
- Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems is a plus.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and time management abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods.
