Job Summary:
The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality coffee, beverages, and light food items while ensuring an exceptional guest experience. This role requires strong knowledge of coffee preparation, customer service, and strict adherence to food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Guest Service & Beverage Preparation
- Prepare and serve all types of hot and cold beverages, including specialty coffees, teas, and smoothies, according to standard recipes and presentation guidelines.
- Provide friendly, efficient, and professional service to all guests.
- Recommend beverage options and upsell menu items to enhance guest satisfaction and revenue.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming service counter and seating area at all times.
Operational Responsibilities
- Operate coffee machines, grinders, blenders, and other café equipment safely and correctly.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist in stock control, ordering, and daily requisitions.
- Ensure proper labeling, dating, and storage of all products in compliance with food safety regulations.
- Handle cash, POS transactions, and shift reports accurately.
Food Safety & Hygiene
- Comply with all local health regulations and company standards related to hygiene, sanitation, and food safety (HACCP or equivalent).
- Conduct daily checks on food and beverage temperatures, equipment cleanliness, and product freshness.
- Report any maintenance issues, food safety hazards, or potential contamination risks immediately.
- Wear proper uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Health & Safety
- Follow all occupational health and safety procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Maintain a clean and hazard-free workspace, including handling hot equipment and cleaning chemicals safely.
- Participate in regular safety briefings and training sessions.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proven experience as a Barista in a café, restaurant, or hotel environment.
- Strong knowledge of coffee brewing techniques, milk frothing, and beverage presentation.
- Certification or training in Food Safety and Hygiene (Level 2 or above) preferred.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Attention to detail, cleanliness, and teamwork.
- Flexible to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
