What to Expect
The Tesla Energy Products team is bringing battery and solar technology to the grid to facilitate a renewable energy ecosystem and redefine the way the world will use energy in the future. As part of the Systems & Architecture team, you are the design leadership that defines and leads Tesla’s strategy to meet those goals by leveraging your physics fundamentals, systems optimization thinking, simulation tools and common sense. This role involves collaboration with designers, engineering, manufacturing, sales and finance and requires the ability to distill highly technical information and effectively communicate with other teams and management. Our team is small, committed, fast moving and we believe a diverse team of motivated individuals can accomplish almost anything. We are problem solvers, team players and game changers. If this sounds like you, Tesla just might be the place to make your mark.
What You'll Do-
Own Battery system designs for Megapack and Powerwall from early development to final product release
-
Maintain and enhance electrical and thermal cell models to support battery algorithm development
-
Incorporate cell-level data into system models to support accurate system specification generation
-
Translate and scale cell-level properties to pack- and system-level metrics (e.g., energy, power, RTE, thermal performance, and reliability)
-
Define cell requirements by translating product-level specifications (performance, safety, lifetime) into measurable cell-level requirements
-
Capture requirements in a formal specification management tool while maintaining bidirectional traceability to tests and validation data
-
Collaborate with cell engineering and vendors to ensure that incoming cell specifications meet Tesla Energy’s product requirements and identify gaps between design intent and delivered performance
-
Perform trade-off analysis across lifetime, cost, energy density, and performance to inform next-generation cell technology adoption
What You'll Bring-
Systems-level thinker with proven ability to drive product optimization across teams and disciplines
-
Skilled in defining and evaluating battery specifications to ensure system-level compliance
-
Strong background in system/product specification development and clear stakeholder communication
-
Proficient in test planning, experimental design, and statistical/physics-based data analysis
-
Experience with battery cell, module, and pack performance modeling using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink
-
Detail-oriented with strong documentation and reporting skills
-
Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience
-
Strong fundamentals in electrical, mechanical, and thermal engineering principles
-
Deep understanding of battery cell chemistry, degradation mechanisms, and pack-level integration
-
Solid foundation in battery technology and energy storage systems
