Requirements and responsibilities
1. Education & Experience
- Degree: A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field is typically required by most employers.
- Experience: 0–3 years of experience in outbound sales, lead generation, or customer service. (Many professionals transition into BDR roles from customer support or marketing internships).
2. Technical Skills & Tools
- CRM Platforms: Experience managing and tracking leads in tools like Salesforce or HubSpot.
- Sales Outreach Tools: Familiarity with prospecting tools (e.g., LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Apollo.io, ZoomInfo) to find decision-makers.
- Research & Lead Qualification: Ability to research target companies, identify buyer personas, and determine if a prospect fits the company's ideal customer profile (ICP).
3. Soft Skills
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to deliver compelling pitches and overcome objections on cold calls or emails.
- Resilience & Drive: A highly motivated, target-oriented mindset; you will face frequent rejection, so the ability to stay positive and persistent is key.
