Job Summary:

The Billing Team Lead is a crucial role responsible for managing and guiding a team of Billing Specialists. This position ensures accurate and efficient billing processes, effective communication within the team, and resolution of any billing-related issues. The Billing Team Lead will oversee claim submissions, verify billing accuracy, and ensure the efficient processing of all billing operations.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Team Oversight and Training:
      • Supervise and support the Billing Specialists within the assigned team.
      • Provide training and assist the billing team with questions related to claim submissions and billing procedures.
      • Verify the correctness and efficiency of billing processes, including VOB (Verification of Benefits) and authorizations.
  • Communication:
      • Serve as the primary point of contact for the Facility regarding any billing issues or problems. Join facility meetings as needed to address Billing Team requests.
      • Respond to inquiries/requests from Facilities/other departments via the email group blasts.
  • Operational Management:
      • Ensure all billing processes are completed accurately and efficiently.
      • Ensure that facility census are received on time, and set up correctly for the Specialist.
      • Assist with facility audits when prompted.
  • Daily Monitoring and Reporting:
    • Oversee and manage the workflow of the Billing Specialist.
    • Report any facility-related problems to the relevant contacts for further action.
    • Receive and set up facility census as they come in.
    • Audit billing completed daily to ensure that the specialist has followed payer/facility rules accurately and efficiently.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience:
      • Minimum of 5 years in healthcare billing with a demonstrated ability to manage billing operations and teams.
      • Experience with CMD and other billing software systems preferred.
  • Education:
      • High School Graduate or equivalent; additional certification in medical billing or coding is a plus.
  • Skills:
      • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills, capable of coordinating effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
      • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic setting.
      • Technical Proficiency: Experience with healthcare billing software, particularly CMD, and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
      • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze billing data and resolve issues efficiently.
      • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in billing and claims processing.
  • Additional Preferred Experience:
    • Familiarity with the Behavioral Healthcare industry, including billing for substance use disorder treatment and mental health services.
    • Prior experience working remotely is a plus.
