Birth Assistant

Austin Area Birthing Center seeks a warm and compassionate candidate to assist our Midwives in natural childbirth. The ideal candidate believes in natural childbirth and seeks to support parents as they bring their babies into the world.

Austin Area Birthing Center has provided personalized midwifery care to thousands of parents over 35 years of dedicated service here in the Austin metro. As one of the larger birth centers in the country, we advocate for choice in maternity care and are active at both the state and national levels to promote greater access to birth center services. Here at home, our providers focus on what’s important – healthy, happy clients and babies.

What your position looks like:

You will assist the Midwife by:

• Being able to work on an on-call schedule, rotating weeks of day call and night call.
• Taking maternal and newborn vitals
• Charting on our EMR software
• Assist the midwife during labor, birth, and postpartum
• Assist during birth and postpartum complications
• Keeping the birth room and center neat and clean
• Help ambulate patients
• Provide breastfeeding, newborn and postpartum education
• Sanitize and restock the birth room after discharge
• Participate in group prenatal care
• Administrative duties such as faxing records, uploading files, and weekly inventory

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required
• 1-2 years of healthcare experience required

Birth work, doula, or midwifery background preferred

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) or LPN/LVN licenses are welcome

• Knowledge of taking and interpreting vital signs
• Willing to be on call for 12 hour shifts
• BLS and NRP certifications

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
