The Boiler Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining steam boilers, auxiliary equipment, and related utility systems to ensure continuous, safe, and efficient plant operation. The role involves adhering to safety standards, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining operational records.
Key Responsibilities
- Operation & Monitoring
- Operate and maintain high-pressure boilers and auxiliary systems according to operational standards and safety procedures.
- Monitor gauges, meters, and control panels to ensure proper boiler performance.
- Adjust controls to regulate temperature, pressure, and fuel flow for optimal efficiency.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance on boilers and related equipment.
- Identify and troubleshoot operational issues; perform minor repairs as needed.
- Report major mechanical issues to maintenance teams for corrective action.
- Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including PPE requirements and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Comply with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Monitor water treatment systems to prevent corrosion, scale, and carryover.
- Record Keeping & Reporting
- Maintain accurate logs of operating conditions, maintenance activities, and incidents.
- Prepare reports for supervisors on equipment performance and downtime.
- Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with maintenance, production, and safety teams to ensure continuous plant operations.
- Communicate effectively with shift teams during handovers.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Boiler Technology, or equivalent technical field.
- Certification: Valid Boiler Engineer/Operator Certificate (as per local regulatory requirements).
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of experience operating high-pressure industrial boilers.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of boiler controls, instrumentation, and safety devices.
- Familiarity with water treatment systems and chemical dosing.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams.
