Book Designer

JOB DESCRIPTION

Koehler Books, a Virginia Beach-based book publisher, seeks a talented book designer to assist with various aspects of cover design and layout. An ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communications skills and mastery of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative suites. Those best suited for this job must be creative, collaborative, personable, trustworthy, and have a demonstrated skill as a designer, with an emphasis on cover design and layouts and a good use of typography.

A college degree in fine art or graphic design is preferred. This is a full time remote job at 40 hours/week. Starting salary of $38,000/year.

Success will be measured by technical and creative skills, plus the ability to problem solve. Being a team player is also very important, so the person in this position must be good working with staff and clients.

Primary responsibilities:

• Meet with authors and the design team weekly
• Design front covers, interior layouts, and cover wraps in the Adobe Creative Suite
• Create social media posts in Canva
• Update website with new books

Core competencies:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator)
• College degree or training in graphic design and/or illustration
• Excellent people skills
• Problem solver
• Ability to multi-task
• Ability to work well with others
