Bookkeeper/Payroll Specialist
We are looking for a skilled Bookkeeper/Payroll Specialist to maintain financial records, including purchases, sales, receipts and payments, as well as process and manage client payrolls.
Bookkeeper job duties include working closely with our accounting team to create and analyze financial reports and ensure compliance, process accounts payable and receivable and tax payments. The payroll duties include calculating wages based on hours worked and being able to use payroll software with accuracy and efficiency.
Our ideal candidate holds a minimum two-year Accounting degree and is familiar with accounting software packages and payroll systems. Public accounting experience is required for this position.
Responsibilities
- Gather information on hours worked for each employee
- Calculate the correct amount incorporating overtime, deductions, bonuses etc. with assistance of a computer system
- Receive approval from upper management for payments when needed
- Prepare and execute pay orders through an electronic system or distribute paychecks
- Administer statements of payment to personnel either electronically or on paper
- Process taxes and payment of employee benefits
- Keep track of hour rates, wages, compensation benefit rates, new hire information etc.
- Address issues and questions regarding payroll from employees and superiors
- Prepare reports for upper management, finance department etc.
- Record day to day financial transactions and complete the posting process
- Verify that transactions are recorded in the correct day book, suppliers ledger, customer ledger and general ledger
- Bring the books to the trial balance stage
- Perform partial checks of the posting process
- Complete tax forms
- Enter data, maintain records and create reports and financial statements
- Process accounts receivable/payable and handle payroll in a timely manner
Requirements and skills
- Hands-on experience within a public accounting setting is required
- Proven experience as payroll specialist or payroll manager
- Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and payroll best practices
- Very good knowledge of legislation and regulations of the field
- Proficient in MS Office and good knowledge of relevant software and databases
- Trustworthy with attention to confidentiality
- Outstanding organizational ability with great attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proven bookkeeping experience in a public accounting setting
- Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable/receivable principles
- Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
- Data entry skills along with a knack for numbers
- Proficiency in English and in MS Office
- AS/AAS in business, accounting.
- Tax experience a plus.

Pay: $16.00 - $25.00 per hour
