Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Bookkeeper / Tax Preparer to manage day-to-day financial records and assist clients with accurate and timely tax preparation. This critical role reports directly to the Jr. Accountant/Office Manager. and the ideal candidate will have strong accounting knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and experience working with bookkeeping and tax software. This role requires maintaining accurate financial records, preparing tax returns, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining client satisfaction while supporting our continued growth and reputation for exceptional service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping Duties
- Maintain accurate financial records for individuals and businesses
- Record daily financial transactions and reconcile bank and credit card accounts
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Process payroll and payroll tax filings
- Prepare monthly financial statements and reports
- Maintain general ledger and chart of accounts
- Assist with budgeting and cash flow management
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies
Tax Preparation Duties
- Tax Preparation Duties
- Prepare and file individual and business tax returns
- Gather and organize financial documents for tax preparation
- Review financial records to ensure tax accuracy and compliance
- Identify tax deductions and credits for clients
- Respond to IRS and state tax notices when necessary
- Stay updated on federal and state tax laws and regulations
- Assist clients with tax planning strategies
Client Support & Communication
- Serve as primary point of contact for client inquiries across all service areas including tax, accounting, payroll, bookkeeping, and business consultation
- Provide exceptional customer service while addressing client questions and resolving issues across multiple service lines
- Assist clients with service setup, document preparation, and process coordination for various financial services
- Coordinate with clients on schedules, appointments, service delivery timelines, and compliance requirements
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Work Experience (Required)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- Minimum 3 years of bookkeeping and/or tax preparation experience
- Experience working in a tax or accounting firm
Technical Skills (Required)
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Outlook for professional communication and scheduling
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and tax preparation software
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and tax regulations
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
