The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Bridge maintenance, has full-time vacancies for Bridge Maintainers I, II or III.

SUMMARY :

BRIDGE MAINTAINER I

To perform semi-skilled bridge construction work, assisting other bridge maintainers in maintenance, repairs, and construction associated with bridge maintenance activities.

BRIDGE MAINTAINER II

To perform semi-skilled and skilled bridge construction work, assisting other bridge maintainers in maintenance, repairs, and construction associated with bridge maintenance activities.

BRIDGE MAINTAINER III

To perform skilled bridge construction and maintenance duties assisting and supervising work performed by other bridge maintainers and acts as crew supervisor in the absence of the Bridge Construction Supervisor.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS : Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

BRIDGE MAINTAINER I

Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent credential

License/Certification : Valid driver’s license

Other Requirements: Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.

For promotion from the 47-2030 Carpenters-2 job title to the 47-2030 Carpenters-3 job title, the eligibility requirements in Personnel Rule 303.08 Broad Group Level Advancement must be satisfied.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

BRIDGE MAINTAINER II

Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 1 year of education and experience after completion of high school.

License/Certification: Valid driver’s license

Other Requirements:

1. Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency

2. Must receive a negative result on a pre-employment urinalysis drug screen in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations and US DOT requirements

Trainee Option: Not applicable

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in bridge construction, carpentry, concrete construction, structural welding, structural steel erection, structural steel painting, timber construction, or operation of heavy construction equipment

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) with tank and air brake endorsements within 1 year

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

BRIDGE MAINTAINER III

Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in carpentry, concrete construction, structural welding, structural steel erection, structural steel painting, timber construction, or operation of heavy construction equipment, with at least 1 year as a Bridge Maintainer II or equivalent.

License/Certification: Valid Driver’s License (CDL-A or CDL-B) with tank and air brake endorsements.

Other Requirements:

RESPONSIBILITIES :


BRIDGE MAINTAINER I

Performs masonry, carpentry, welding, wood and steel fabrication, structural steel placement, and reinforcement of steel and bridge components.

Assists in work zone traffic control, environmental controls for wetlands, safety and security inspections, assembly and installation of temporary bridges such as Bailey Bridges, and maintenance of moveable span bridges.

Assists in the use of rigging slings, scaffolds, and staging for safe lifting of material and equipment for repair, painting and construction purposes.

Understands and applies procedures related to work zone safety, health, personnel rules, and hazardous material. Properly uses Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Works continuously in dangerous environment which includes high speed traffic, night work, hazardous materials, heights, inclement weather, extreme temperatures, various river conditions, and disaster situations to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

Operates heavy pneumatic tools, sometimes in restricted movement areas, working overhead, lifting and placing heavy materials. Climbs and works from scaffolds high above the ground.

Performs work in full conformance with all risk management, safety, and environmental standards, regulations, and administrative orders.

BRIDGE MAINTAINER II

Performs masonry, carpentry, welding, wood and steel fabrication, structural steel placement, reinforcement of steel and bridge components, and safety and security inspections.

Operates and maintains heavy complex bridge construction equipment and machines to construct and maintain bridges and other facilities.

Applies knowledge of work zone traffic control, environment controls for wetlands, assembly and installation of temporary bridges such as Bailey Bridges, and maintenance of moveable span bridges.

Assists in the use of rigging slings, scaffolds, and staging for safe lifting of material and equipment for repair, painting and construction projects.

Understands and applies procedures related to work zone safety, health, personnel rules, and hazardous material. Properly uses Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Assists in training and supervising Bridge Maintainer I and Laborer positions on methods of bridge construction, maintenance and repair.

Applies knowledge of proper use of transit, work zone traffic control, environmental controls for wetlands, assembly and installation of temporary bridges such as Bailey Bridges, and operation and maintenance of moveable span bridges.

Devises the use of rigging slings, scaffolds, and staging for safe lifting of material and equipment for repair, painting and construction purposes.

Understands and applies procedures related to work zone safety, health, personnel rules, and hazardous material. Properly uses Personal Protective Equipment.

Assists Bridge Construction Supervisor in training other Bridge Maintainers and Laborers on methods of bridge construction, maintenance and repair, and proper safety procedures.

Works continuously in dangerous environment which includes high speed traffic, night work, hazardous materials, heights, inclement weather, extreme temperatures, various river conditions, and disaster situations to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

Operates heavy pneumatic tools sometimes in restricted movement areas, working overhead, lifting and placing heavy materials. Climbs and works from scaffolds high above the ground.

Responds to questions from other state employees or members of the general public; obtains and exchanges information, and refers inquiries to the appropriate source when appropriate.
