Position Overview:
Benefit Street Partners’ Commercial Real Estate (“CRE”) Debt group is seeking an Analyst or Associate to join its team. The candidate will join the CRE debt originations team and will be responsible for initial deal screening, underwriting, and pipeline and transaction management for Benefit Street Partners’ CRE debt investments.
Role and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Review initial debt deal packages received by the origination team and produce detailed overview of requests for review by originators and underwriters.
Produce initial cash flow modeling of potential debt investments and identify key debt metrics’ compliance with BSP’s investment strategy.
Work directly with originators and internal legal team to draft loan applications.
Manage deal team pipelines throughout all stages of the deal lifecycle.
Draft preliminary Asset Summary Reports (ASRs) for new debt investments to be circulated to CRE Investment Committee.
Assist the CRE debt underwriters in various aspects of underwriting due diligence, including but not limited to cash flow modeling, market research, third party report review, and investment committee memorandum drafting.
Liaise with third party diligence providers including insurance consultants, search firms, title companies, appraisers and engineers to provide needed diligence information and ensure timely delivery of reports.
Assist as needed with Benefit Street Partners’ CRE Asset Management and Capital Market teams various initiatives including ongoing loan monitoring, financing, and CMBS and CLO securitization.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will ideally possess:
Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field
1 to 4 years of experience in commercial real estate with a focus on CRE debt origination and/or underwriting.
Ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines
Ability to work in a team oriented, fast paced, demanding environment
Strong analytical skills
Excellent written, verbal and electronic communication skills
