Job Description:
Responsible for overseeing the college’s physical plant and general services, including facilities maintenance, groundskeeping, building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing), and vehicle fleet operations. Manages budgets, supervises maintenance staff, ensures code compliance, and coordinates building projects and renovations. Provides strategic leadership, enforces safety standards, and maintains clean, safe, and functional campus environments. Collaborates with contractors, vendors, and college personnel to ensure high-quality service delivery and project execution.
Salary Range:
$33.61 - $48.66
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3 years of maintenance operations experience with proven skills in technical troubleshooting, team leadership, safety compliance, and budget management.
  • Expertise in building systems (plumbing, HVAC, electrical) and safety.
  • Skilled with maintenance software and staff training.
  • Strong leadership and organizational abilities.
  • Minnesota 1st Class C Boiler Operator license, with Chief C expected within 2 years.
Preferred Qualification
  • Broad and considerable knowledge of general construction is required so that new construction, remodeling, or corrective repairs may be initiated and supervised, including, but not limited to, the ability to read blueprints.
  • Good human relations skills sufficient to work with a wide variety of customers.

  • Ability to perform work that requires the following
    • Lifting/carrying strengths: 20lb Maximum
    • Posture/Other Activities: Significant amount of walking or standing; pushing and pulling of arms and legs.
  • Ability to perform in a work environment which may include the following physical functions:
    • Frequent: Standing, walking, use of simple grasp, talking, hearing, use of near vision (up to 20), use of midrange vision, use of far vision (over 20), use of field of vision.
    • Occasional: Sitting, lifting above shoulder, lifting waist to chest, lifting below waist, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, twisting/pivot, reaching, repetitive foot movements, repetitive arm movements, use of firm grasp, fine manipulating, feeling, tasting/smelling, use of depth perception, visual accommodation, color vision.
  • Ability to perform in a work environment that may include the following factors:
    • More than 20% of the time: Exposure to weather, atmospheric conditions.
    • Less than 20% of the time: Extreme cold, extreme heat, wet and/or humidity, vibration, moving mechanical parts.
Other Requirements
In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (Minnesota State) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
