Position Summary
The Business Analyst is responsible for the business aspects of information systems which would include business processes, functionality, and data. Develops, analyzes, and documents requirements, as well as business process decomposition and modeling. Collaborate and coordinate effectively with OIT, administrative, academic, and student members.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Define requirements and business cases for technology developments.
  • Participate in analyzing and documenting existing processes and systems for possible improvements and recommending new or revised systems; may develop instructional materials, training, and job aids.
  • Participate in the analysis of user needs and the design and implementation of new or modified management information systems, such as use case analysis.
  • Provides assistance in designing reporting systems, forms, and related business tools.
  • Collaborate and coordinate effectively with OIT and college business team members, translating between business and technical staff to derive clarity from ambiguity.
  • Interview staff, faculty, students, and vendors at all levels to analyze policies, work procedures and operational methods for the needs analysis stage of systems development.
  • May participate in user acceptance testing, assist in upgrades and patching; may participate in smoke testing and develop test plans; plan, conduct, and document results of testing.
  • Participate in problem solving; defining the problem, performing root cause analysis, exploring options and solutions, understanding constraints, and recommending best solution based on data-driven analysis.
  • Develop quality documentation such as requirement specification, user guides, presentation materials, correspondence, and use cases.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to establish credibility and rapport with team members, management, and stakeholders. Communicate findings, results, requirements, and timelines in an objective manner.
  • Appropriately escalate concerns or issues to more senior staff.

Work Hours
  • Typically, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. May be required to work after-hours and/or weekends.
Working Conditions
  • Office setting with frequent use of a computer.
  • May occasionally be required to lift up to 25 pounds of equipment.
  • May require occasional travel between local campus sites or training/professional development events.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a business analyst or in a similar role. Demonstrated proficiency in business process modeling, documentation, and analysis tools.
Education may be substituted for relevant experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Four (4) years of experience in information technology or business analysis.
  • Experience in higher education or public sector environments.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
  • Experience working with modern integration tools, Single Sign On (SSO), and APIs.
  • Knowledge of platforms such as Workday, Modern Campus Lifelong Learning, Fischer Identity, and Canvas Learning Management System.
  • CBAP, PMI-PBA, or related business analysis certification.
