Business Director - ALTIVIA Oxide Chemicals

ALTIVIA is seeking a Business Director to manage, lead, and drive the maximum profitability, growth and sustainability for our Oxides business, product line, and markets. The Business Director will develop and execute initiatives related to sales, marketing, technology, pricing, product/customer mix improvement, process improvement, cost reductions, personnel development and strategic growth initiatives for market acquisition and diversification.

Duties include:

  • Prepare and obtain approval for the assigned sector for the annual business plan to include long term sales and market forecasts, key issues, business objectives, alternative strategies, and their implication for profitability, growth, plant capacity, research efforts, product and process development, etc.

  • Determine appropriate margins by product and/or operating unit over the business cycle, then develop and execute appropriate initiatives to achieve the targeted margins which include, but are not limited to:

    • Developing a robust pipeline of growth opportunities and then capturing new business to increase asset utilization.

    • Optimizing product/toll prices and product offering to properly reflect value-in-use in specific applications as well as changes to product costs, quality, manufacturing conditions and competitive market activity.

    • Improving current customer and product mix to optimize profitability and manufacturing operations, and to improve sustainability of the overall business by alignment with customers who are industry / technology leaders in strategic market applications.

  • Prioritize and coordinate sales, technology and manufacturing efforts to develop new high-value products to satisfy customer and market needs as strategy lends itself.

  • Identify necessary business process improvements required to address needs of specialty business and sustain efficient operations; outline business requirements and assist in design and development of improved business processes.

  • Assist in the development of customer, product and sales training programs.

  • Prepare and obtain approval for the annual forecast of sales volume, prices and revenue, plus the appropriate expense budget.

  • Manage market research studies and provide the necessary quantitative and qualitative data for plant expansion, product and market development, market diversification and acquisition. Support trade show activity for the business.

  • Improve and disseminate a sound understanding of the business sector to include markets, applications, end users, co-producers, and competitors through contacts with key personnel in other companies and associations.

  • Monitor the business sector closely and report significant variations from plans and forecasts in areas such as market growth, competitive activity, sales volume, price and value, product profitability, etc., and implement the necessary action.

  • Participates in industry associations and keeps updated on all industry trends, relevant regulations, and competitive intelligence.

  • Other job responsibilities or tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology, marketing, or similar disciplines; MBA preferred

  • 10+ years of experience in chemical industry in sales, supply chain, product and business management with a proven record of increased responsibility and achievement

  • Ability to lead & integrate multi-functional team and drive sales, technology, marketing, manufacturing and quality initiatives and disciplines to optimize profitability, customer/product mix and improve asset utilization

  • Must possess:

    • Knowledge of customers, product markets and applications

    • Knowledge of market research, programs and systems and effective selling techniques

    • Knowledge of manufacturing, testing analysis and application of designated business or product line

    • Knowledge of competitive products and services

    • Customer relationship management, price and contract negotiation skills

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and computer application and appropriate business software competencies

Physical Requirements:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel up to 50% including air travel or auto travel.
