About the Opportunity

Catskill Animal Sanctuary is seeking a Business & Finance Specialist to support the organization’s financial operations, budgeting processes, and internal systems. This role plays an important part in ensuring strong fiscal stewardship, sound business practices, and operational efficiency. The position works closely with the Executive Director and department leads while remaining actively involved in hands-on accounting and administrative functions.

About Catskill Animal Sanctuary

CAS is one of the world’s leading teaching sanctuaries, located on approximately 100 acres in New York’s Hudson Valley. We are home to more than 140 rescued farmed animals across several different species. Our dedicated staff, together with many volunteers, welcome thousands of visitors each year through our tours, programs, and humane education initiatives.

What You’ll DoFinancial Management & Accounting

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll coordination, and month-end close
  • Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP
  • Support proper expense allocation across programs and departments
  • Monitor cash flow and prepare monthly financial reports

Budgeting & Financial Planning

  • Support the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the Executive Director and department leads
  • Monitor budget performance and provide regular updates
  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds to ensure compliance with donor and grant requirements

Business Operations & Systems

  • Serve as a key contact for external accountants and auditors
  • Help to prepare documentation for the annual audit and Form 990
  • Manage payroll processing and benefits administration in coordination with HR
  • Manage financial systems and reporting

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field
  • 3–5+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or business operations (nonprofit experience preferred)
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial practices
  • Experience with budgeting and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in accounting software and strong Excel skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • A collaborative, solutions-focused approach
