Person County Department of Social Services is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Business Officer I within the Department of Social Services. This position plays a critical leadership role in overseeing the department’s financial and administrative operations.

The primary purpose of this position is to plan, lead, manage, and direct all financial and budgetary functions for the Department of Social Services. Responsibilities include overseeing both short-term and long-term financial planning, ensuring fiscal accountability, and supporting the department’s mission through sound financial management.

Under the direction of the Social Services Director, the Business Officer I is responsible for the development, research, and preparation of the department’s annual budget. This role also ensures compliance with federal, state, and county financial regulations while maintaining effective internal controls and accurate fiscal reporting.

The starting salary will be determined with consideration given to both the candidate's educational background and relevant work experience.


Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.


This is an exempt position working 37.5 hours weekly/1950 hours annually.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Required Minimum Training (Must match State classification spec):

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university, preferably with a major in business, public, or hospital administration, and four years administrative experience involving participation in the planning and management of a business or governmental program;
  • or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to select, train, and supervise employees engaged in business operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public and business administration.
  • Thorough knowledge of modern office procedures, practices, and equipment.

Person County conducts pre-employment screening on candidates. Job offers are conditional pending the following:
