General Statement of Job
The Business Systems Analyst serves as a liaison between the student unit and technology teams delivering value through multiple systems and platforms. The Business System Analyst analyzes, evaluates business processes, recommends changes, and develops project plans and other supporting documentation, including business process maps, detailed functional and technical design specifications, and test plans. The Analyst will collaborate with one or more operational areas to align technology solutions with institutional strategies.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Serves as technical liaison between the student services unit and Technology Resources division to ensure accurate communication of projects.
Reviews, evaluates, understands and documents business processes and workflows.
Creates, reviews, and updates manuals, procedures, flowcharts and related user documentation.
Resolves issues independently and assesses risks and develops solutions.
Analyzes system’s data, utilizing help manuals and PC data.
Actively participates in the student unit and technology projects and, in collaborates in the analysis, implementation and testing phases as well as maintenance, support, and ensures timely completion.
Supports all of the department reporting needs, including Argos reporting, Atomic UC4, Structured Query Language (SQL), Microsoft Office Suite software including macros and maintains cycle transaction files.
Maintains access security, including the creation, management and assignment of templates as well as Value-Based Security and maintenance of approval queues.
Maintains department website.
Monitors and maintains automated reports and scripts.
Gains knowledge and understanding of the different technology systems used by the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Division and works with Technology Resources and vendors to resolve issues as they appear.
Preserves internal paperwork, forms and processes up to date as a result of system upgrades and service packs.
Coordinates with Technology Resources in the creation of new share drive folders and restricting access to selected staff.
Develops training materials and assists or conducts end-user training sessions.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field required.
At least five (5) years of experience in the BANNER system, applications programming and design, in particular open-VMS environment preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Good analytical skills.
Knowledge of Computer Information Systems.
Knowledge of workflow/process flow diagramming and documentation of business processes.
Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.
Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed.
Demonstrated commitment to the community college philosophy of education.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, students, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
