Job Summary
A Buyer is responsible for effectively sourcing and procuring wood products and related products, in conjunction with other buyers, other purchasing departments, plant management, & salespeople from different facilities.
Works under general supervision; relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks; a certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identifies material sources that are relative to the needs of the facilities assigned.
  • Develops and maintains a relationship with sales and sales management of key suppliers and demonstrates the ability and willingness to translate that relationship into solid cash and program business.
  • Procures products that meet or exceed the quality, service, and price requirements of the assigned facilities.
  • Provides current market levels and an accurate prediction for the future direction of the market.
  • Develops and maintains a clear understanding of the processes and products produced at those facilities
  • Gains and maintains an understanding of the manufacturing capabilities, customers, products, sales programs, competitors, and service needs for the facilities assigned.
  • Proactively offers relevant products to sales and plant management.
  • Helps develop and grow sales and margin by developing an effective working relationship with sales and management.
  • Operates inventory software efficiently and accurately as follows:
    • Creates and updates purchase orders.
    • Responds to and settles claims as they develop, according to Company policies.
    • Navigates Cardex in effort to keep on top of inventory.
    • Sets up and navigates buy lists.
  • Prepares various reports as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in business or related discipline or equivalent experience is required.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in lumber industry.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook, and other business software.
  • Working knowledge of lumber math and business math.
  • Working knowledge of commodity market conditions and dynamics.
  • Working knowledge of lumber and panel grade rules
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly/Salary Pay Range: $70,000 - $85,000 annually*
*pay range may be adjusted depending on cost of living
Bonus/Incentive Pay: Annual performance bonus opportunity based on Company and specific business unit ROI and PBOP achievement criteria and individual job responsibility and performance.
