Slip Tech is a Columbus, Ohio-based, family-owned manufacturer specializing in custom slipform concrete molds, reconditioned slipform paving machines, and related accessories. With over 45 years of end-to-end slipform paving engineering and field operations experience, we build molds tailored to each customer’s exact specifications — serving contractors who operate equipment from leading manufacturers including GOMACO, Miller Formless, Power Curber, and Wirtgen. Our reputation is built on quality fabrication, deep industry knowledge, and a hands-on commitment to helping customers complete their projects right.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced CAD & Manufacturing Manager to lead the design and production of our custom concrete slipform paving molds. This is a hands-on leadership role that bridges precision CAD drafting with shop-floor fabrication management. The ideal candidate understands steel metal fabrication inside and out, can translate customer mold specifications into detailed drawings, and has the management experience to drive a production team from drawing release through fabrication and final quality inspection — all while identifying process improvements that keep our shop efficient and our customers on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
CAD Design & Engineering
- Produce detailed CAD drawings for custom slipform molds built to customer job specifications, compatible with GOMACO, Miller Formless, Power Curber, or Wirtgen paving machines.
- Revise and update drawings to reflect engineering changes, field feedback, or customer specification updates.
- Ensure all designs meet applicable dimensional tolerances and fabrication standards for slipform paving applications.
Workflow & Production Management
- Manage the end-to-end production workflow from drawing release through steel fabrication, assembly, and final quality check.
- Coordinate job scheduling and work sequencing to meet customer delivery deadlines.
- Track work orders and production milestones; proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks.
- Conduct or oversee quality inspections at key production stages to ensure molds conform fully to drawings and customer specifications.
- Coordinate with owners to support quoting, order intake, and technical clarifications with contractors.
Team & Personnel Management
- Directly supervise and lead warehouse fabricators and production personnel.
- Assign daily tasks, monitor performance, and provide hands-on coaching and technical guidance on the shop floor.
- Foster a culture of craftsmanship, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluation of shop staff.
Process Improvement & Manufacturing Efficiency
- Analyze fabrication workflows and identify opportunities to reduce lead times, minimize material waste, and lower production costs.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for mold fabrication, assembly, and QC processes.
- Stay current on steel fabrication technologies, slipform paving industry developments, and evolving paving machine compatibility requirements.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience creating CAD drawings in a metal fabrication and manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, TurboCAD or comparable CAD software.
- Solid understanding of steel metal fabrication methods including cutting, welding, forming, and finishing.
- Demonstrated experience managing or supervising a fabrication team or production crew.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and dimensional tolerances.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple custom orders simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills to translate job specifications into shop-floor execution.
Preferred Knowledge
- Familiarity with slipform concrete paving operations or concrete paving mold fabrication.
- Knowledge of slipform paving equipment from manufacturers such as GOMACO, Miller Formless, Power Curber, or Wirtgen.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, or strong, proven work experience.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.
- Paid time off and company holidays.
- A stable, family-owned company with a collaborative team and over 45 years in the industry.
- A visible leadership role with direct impact on shop operations, product quality, and company growth.
- The opportunity to work with a specialized, tight-knit team building equipment used on concrete paving projects across the country.
