Job Description:

The Capital Projects Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing capital projects within the mining operation. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory and company standards. The Superintendent will oversee contractors, manage resources, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.

Day to Day:

  • Leadership and Supervision: Provide direct leadership and coaching for direct reports, maintain clear expectations for safety, quality and productivity while fostering a safety-first culture across all project teams, including contractors
  • Field Execution and Oversight: Oversee daily field execution of multiple mining capital projects, ensuring all civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and earthworks activities align with approved designs, schedules, and budgets
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with mine safety management systems, MSHA standards, and environmental regulations by enforcing standards, leading incident investigations, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Schedule, Cost and Quality Control: Monitor project progress to mitigate schedule risks, support cost and change control processes, verify contractor payments, and ensure quality inspections and corrective actions are completed
  • Stakeholder Management : Coordinate construction with mine operations to reduce production impacts, engage with project teams and regulatory agencies, and lead daily meetings and contractor performance reviews
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with engineering, procurement, maintenance, and operations teams to align objectives, resolve project challenges, and foster open communication and teamwork across all stakeholders
  • Commissioning and Handover: Oversee commissioning and startup of new assets, ensure proper documentation and handover to operations, and capture lessons learned to drive continuous improvement

Is This You??

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience with significant relevant work experience
  • Experience: Minimum of eight years of experience in construction and/or operational supervision with project execution; demonstrated experience managing supervisors and field teams
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of construction methods and sequencing, ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and contracts, familiar with EPC/EPCM project execution, and understanding of commissioning and operational handover. Demonstrate an ability to utilize drafting software (AutoCAD) and project management tools (Smartsheet, MS Project, etc) and Microsoft Office products
  • Problem-Solving: Must have the ability to think strategically and implement tactically
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong organizational and time management skills. Detail-oriented with strong documentation practices
  • Safety-Oriented: A strong commitment to safety, with experience in conducting safety audits and ensuring compliance with all safety standards.

Working Conditions & Location:

  • Environment: This role involves working in both office and field environments, including outdoor work at mine sites with exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
  • Location: The Cripple Creek & Victor (CC&V) Mine site is located at elevations ranging from approximately 9,400 ft. to 10,600 ft. above sea level.
  • Schedule: Standard: M-Th, 10hrs / day; may require extended hours
  • Physical Demands: The role may require walking on uneven terrain
