Care Provider/respite worker

Position: Respite Care Provider (Supportive, Active & Fun!)

​Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference in a teen’s life while giving a family a much-needed breather? We are seeking a reliable, patient, and energetic Respite Worker to support a vibrant autistic teenager in our home and out in the community.

​The Role

​This isn’t just "babysitting." You’ll be a mentor, a safety anchor, and a companion. Your goal is to engage our teen in their favorite activities while ensuring a safe, supportive environment.

• Location: Gloversville Ny
• ​Schedule: After school and weekend hours available
• ​Compensation: $23 per hour

​Key Responsibilities

• ​Engagement: Participate in preferred activities going on hikes, playgrounds, beaches and just likes going for long rides.
• ​Community Outings: Accompany the teen to local parks, libraries, or shops to practice social navigation.
• ​Safety First: Maintain a watchful eye and follow established routines to prevent sensory overload or elopement.
• ​Daily Support: Assist with basic needs like meal prep/snacks and occasional reminders for hygiene or tasks.

​Who You Are

• ​Patient & Calm: You have a steady "poker face" and don’t get easily overwhelmed by repetitive behaviors or communication differences.
• ​Reliable: Consistency is key for our family; we need someone we can count on.
• ​Creative: You’re great at thinking on your feet to turn a potential meltdown into a "cool down."
• ​Experience: Previous experience with autism, ADHD, or special education is highly preferred, but a willingness to learn is essential.

​Requirements

• ​Must be 18+ years of age.
• ​Background check and references required.
• ​Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license
• ​First Aid/CPR certification a plus but not required.
