General Description
Assigns, reviews, organizes and supervises assigned personnel engaged in the repair & maintenance of all company mobile equipment to include forklifts, backhoes, tractors, and mowers; construction, modification, maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities including maintenance tasks related to landscape, plumbing, painting, lighting, custodial duties and general maintenance of US Sugar buildings and structures; and performs a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervises weekly, monthly, and annual preventative maintenance carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and HVAC work to maintain buildings and equipment in safe condition.
  • Plans and schedules preventive maintenance to repair or modify defects and maintain operating condition of facilities and equipment using a computer and appropriate forms; obtains and provides job estimates/quotes and job completion notification using various communication formats, including computer.
  • Prices and requisitions materials and suppliers for projects and regular operations.
  • Coordinates with vendors and contractors to determine that work is correctly performed and completed as estimated.
  • Plans, organizes, controls, integrates, and evaluates the activities and operations related to the construction, maintenance and repair of office buildings and the various features such as HVAC, plumping, electrical, painting and landscape.
  • Coordinates the organization, staffing, and operation activities for assigned maintenance and operations programs; directs, coordinates, and reviews the work plan for assigned maintenance and operations services and activities; assigns work activities and projects; monitors workflow; reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures; meets with staff to identify and resolve problems.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, and priorities; recommends and participates in the implementation of resulting policies and procedures; monitors work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Identifies opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; identifies resource needs; reviews with appropriate management staff; implements improvements.
  • Interrelates effectively and diplomatically in all areas of employee relations, always projecting a professional image in keeping with the US Sugar Savannah goals and objectives while exercising the highest degree of confidentiality; selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline and termination procedures.
  • Assists in the development and administration of assigned program budget; forecasts funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Directs in the design, construction, integration, modification and maintenance of landscape, HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems as related to office and warehouse buildings.
  • Supervises the investigation, trouble shooting, repair and maintenance of buildings.
  • Supervises the forklift maintenance staff and contractors to assure all forklifts and mobile equipment is repaired and maintained to a high standard consistent with the OSHA mobile equipment standard.
  • Maintains, reviews, and records a variety of reports, including daily activity reports, work orders, work requests, monthly statistical reports, and other reports and records as required. Reviews vendor/contractor invoices and proposals and recommends payment upon receipt of material/completion of work.
  • Develops and recommends modifications to assigned maintenance and operations programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 10 years of experience in facilities and mobile equipment maintenance & repair, (e.g., HVAC, electrical, carpentry, plumbing).
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to analyze and problem-solve complex technical problems.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform job functions such as:
    • Read blueprints.
    • Heavy lifting/moving (more than 50 lbs.), bending, crouching, climbing, and working from heights.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English, have good interpersonal and communication skills, including mathematical, reasoning, written and verbal skills.
  • Must have the ability to use parts books and service manuals.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work anywhere within the company and in variable/extreme weather conditions.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Ability to move or handle various items generally weighing between 0-50 pounds; ability to lift and carry up to 50+ pounds.
  • Ability to work varied hours and days.
  • Will be expected to work outside in all kinds of weather.

Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in outside weather conditions on a regular basis.

Outside working conditions may be rainy, hot, humid, dusty, windy, etc. depending on the weather as well as the work location. Some work locations will be isolated which requires the employee to work independently and safely with minimum to no supervision.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
