Case Manager/Paralegal - September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Cases

Summary

The 9/11 Claims & Benefits Specialist provides highly sophisticated, independent management of the firm’s 9/11 Victim Compensation cases. This position requires a person who has excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills, along with the ability to work within a team and independently with oversight from the Director of 9/11 Claims & Benefits Practice, as well as the Team Lead.

Job Duties

An intake position involving constant telephone and/or written communication with potential new clients and existing clients
Candidates should be well-spoken and possess exceptional phone manners
Contribute to critical part of our team as you are one of the first points of contact for our clients
Ensure that our operational excellence is shown in the initial interactions with a client
Conduct follow-up client telephone interviews
Answer client questions concerning materials provided for the completion and progression of a VCF claim or WTC Health Program application
Follow-up on pending inquiries via phone, email and text as well as updating our system platform to reflect the status of all potential new clients
Administrative tasks related to opening new cases received
Communication with various entities such as police and fire departments, unions and other businesses
Understand the Policies & Procedures of the VCF as well as the guidelines and requirements for enrollment into the World Trade Center Health Program as they are both constantly evolving

Requirements

Must possess exceptional phone manners and be comfortable talking to people on the phone
Must have excellent organizational, written, and communication skills
Must possess great attention to detail and be able to multi-task/prioritize their work load
Must have patience and empathy when working with clients
An understanding of first responders (i.e. police, firefighters, paramedics) and their particular needs and concerns
A bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate is a plus, but not required.
Preference given to those who are currently or have a background as a first responder, volunteer or professional.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; WORD, Excel, PowerPoint; familiar with current version of software;
Entry level knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation;
Knowledge of current DOJ guidelines and procedural requirements for both the 9/11 VCF and WTCHP;
Proficiency with Smart Advocate;
Knowledge of office equipment such as multi-function devices, telephones, facsimiles, etc.
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Excellent customer service orientation;
Great attention to detail;
Ability to multi-task/prioritize their work load;
Ability to have patience and empathy for clients;
Ability to be in the office on a daily basis, working a full day;
Notary Public (Preferred).
