Cashier

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist customers, respond to questions about prices, promotions, product locations, policies.
  • Accurately scan items, total purchases, apply discounts/coupons, and process cash, credit/debit, and other payment forms.
  • Issue receipts, return change, and bag items as needed.
  • Handle refunds, exchanges, loyalty programs, ID verification for restricted sales.
  • Balance cash drawer at start/end of shift and prepare deposits.
  • Keep checkout area clean, stocked, and presentable; restock impulse/shelf items or help with light merchandising.
  • Monitor and assist self-checkout, detect and report suspicious transactions (loss prevention).
  • Assist opening/closing procedures, training, and collaborate with colleagues for overall store operation.

Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Prior cashier or customer service experience a plus.
  • Proficient in POS/registers, basic computers, scanners, scales.
  • Strong math skills, accuracy in cash handling and balancing.
  • Excellent communication, friendly, patient, able to handle fast-paced work.
  • Attentive to detail, reliable, honest.
  • Capable of standing for long periods and lifting moderate weight.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays.
