Position: Technology and Metadata Services Cataloging Librarian

Hours: 37.5 hours/week

Beginning Salary: $50,913-$63,641 depending on qualifications
$63,641 is the midpoint of the pay grade. Starting at or above the midpoint is reserved for candidates who exceed the minimum qualifications and have significant relevant experience.

Position Description
Are you a detail-oriented cataloger with a passion for connecting children and teens with library resources? Helen Plum Library is seeking an experienced Cataloging Librarian to join our Technology and Metadata Services Department!

In this role, you'll primarily support the discoverability of our youth collections, ensuring that youth and caregivers can easily find the books, audiovisual materials, and innovative Library of Things items they need to learn, explore, and grow, while also providing cataloging support for other library collections as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Catalogs and classifies all material for assigned collection areas using the current Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC23) and Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH)
  • Utilizes the OCLC database for original and adaptive cataloging of materials to create enhanced MARC records according to national standards and internal procedures
  • Communicates with selectors regarding classification of materials and assignment of subject headings
  • Serves as a resource for cataloging questions and changes
  • Assists Department Manager in making decisions regarding changes in cataloging practices and departmental procedures

Qualifications

  • ALA-accredited MLIS degree required
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a professional cataloger
  • Working knowledge of ILS software preferred, particularly Sierra
