Chief Information Officer (CIO) — Job Description
Summary
Lead the organization’s information strategy, IT operations, and technology governance to enable business objectives, ensure secure and reliable information systems, and drive digital transformation.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement IT strategy aligned with business goals, ensuring technology supports growth, efficiency, and risk management.
- Oversee IT operations: infrastructure, enterprise applications (ERP, CRM, HRIS), networks, help desk, and end‑user computing to ensure availability and performance.
- Lead enterprise architecture, data governance, and integration strategies to ensure scalable, interoperable systems and single source of truth for business data.
- Own information security, privacy, and compliance programs in collaboration with security and legal teams; manage risk assessments, incident response, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive digital transformation initiatives (cloud migration, automation, analytics, low‑code/no‑code), prioritizing projects based on business value and ROI.
- Manage vendor and SaaS relationships, contracts, SLAs, and procurement to optimize cost, performance, and supplier risk.
- Build and lead IT organization: hire, coach, and retain technical and operational talent; define structure, roles, and career paths.
- Establish IT governance, budgeting, and portfolio management processes; prioritize investments and measure outcomes.
- Partner with business leaders to define technology roadmaps, prioritize capabilities, and sponsor cross‑functional change programs.
- Oversee disaster recovery, business continuity planning, and backup strategies to minimize operational disruption.
- Promote data-driven decision making by delivering analytics, BI platforms, and enabling self-service reporting while ensuring data quality.
- Report IT performance and risks to the executive team and board; communicate strategy, roadmap, and major initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or equivalent experience; advanced degree (MBA, MS) preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, with prior roles managing enterprise IT, application portfolios, or digital programs.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise systems (ERP, CRM), cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), networking, identity, and security frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience in IT strategy, vendor management, budgeting, and large program delivery.
- Experience with regulatory/compliance frameworks relevant to the industry (SOX, HIPAA, PCI, GDPR) as applicable.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills; experience advising executive teams and boards.
Preferred skills
- Certifications: ITIL, CISM, CISSP, PMP, or relevant vendor/cloud certifications.
- Experience leading digital transformation, data/analytics programs, and cost optimization initiatives.
- Background in change management and organizational design.
- Industry experience (finance, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, SaaS) a plus.
