Chief Information Officer (CIO) — Job Description
Role summary
Senior executive responsible for defining and delivering the organization’s technology strategy, ensuring IT enables business goals, operational efficiency, security, and innovation.
Key responsibilities:
- Technology strategy: Develop and execute an enterprise technology roadmap that aligns IT investments with business strategy, scalability, and competitive advantage.
- IT governance & policy: Establish IT governance, standards, architecture principles, and lifecycle policies for software, infrastructure, data, and cloud.
- Enterprise architecture: Oversee design and evolution of application, data, integration, and infrastructure architecture to ensure reliability, performance, and maintainability.
- Cybersecurity & risk management: Partner with security leaders to ensure robust information security, identity/access management, data protection, incident response, and regulatory compliance.
- IT operations & service delivery: Ensure high availability, capacity planning, disaster recovery/business continuity, and service-level management for internal and customer-facing systems.
- Digital transformation & innovation: Drive digital initiatives, process automation, modernization (cloud migration, APIs, microservices), and adoption of emerging technologies (AI/ML, analytics) to create business value.
- Data strategy & analytics: Lead data governance, data quality, analytics, BI, and enablement of data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.
- Vendor & contract management: Oversee sourcing strategy, vendor selection, contract negotiation, vendor performance, and third‑party risk for SaaS, cloud, and managed services.
- Budgeting & cost management: Manage IT budget, capital planning, cost optimization (e.g., cloud spend), and ROI for technology investments.
- Team leadership & capability building: Build, mentor, and retain high-performing IT teams (engineering, operations, security, data) and promote DevOps/Agile practices.
- Stakeholder engagement: Act as strategic partner to the CEO, business unit leaders, CFO, and board; translate business needs into technical solutions and communicate technology risks/opportunities.
- Compliance & regulatory liaison: Ensure IT meets legal, regulatory, and industry-specific compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS) as applicable.

Required qualifications & experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related field; advanced degree (MBA, MSc) preferred.
- 10+ years in IT leadership with progressive responsibility; executive-level experience preferred for large organizations.
- Proven track record delivering cloud migrations, large-scale systems, digital transformation, and enterprise architecture.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity, data management, software development lifecycle, and modern infrastructure (cloud platforms, containers, CI/CD).
- Experience managing multi-million-dollar budgets and vendor ecosystems.
- Excellent strategic thinking, communication, stakeholder management, and change leadership skills.
