Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Veterinary United — Family-Owned. Forward-Thinking. Powered by Purpose.

About Us

Veterinary United is a family-owned and veterinarian-led network of 24 practices across Southeast Michigan, dedicated to transforming veterinary medicine through innovation, compassion, and empowerment. Our mission is to create an environment where people, pets, and practices can thrive. We believe in five core values: Inspire, Empower, Lead, Evolve, and Believe.

As we continue to grow, we’re investing in technology as a force multiplier — improving efficiency, enhancing patient care, and supporting every department with the tools and systems they need to do their best work.

About the Role

We are seeking a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead our digital transformation, driving innovation across the entire organization. This role will oversee all aspects of our technology strategy, infrastructure, data systems, and artificial intelligence adoption, helping Veterinary United become a leader in how technology and veterinary care intersect.

The ideal candidate is both visionary and practical, able to think strategically about the future of AI and automation in healthcare, while also executing on solutions that improve workflows, efficiency, and decision-making across a multi-location organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • AI Integration & Strategy:
Develop and lead an enterprise-wide AI strategy focused on improving efficiency and outcomes across departments — from predictive hiring in Recruiting, to automated inventory management, to financial forecasting and operations optimization.
  • Innovation & Technology Leadership:
Identify emerging technologies and opportunities to enhance the veterinary experience. Guide the evaluation, implementation, and adoption of AI tools, machine learning platforms, and automation solutions that empower our teams and streamline operations.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration:
Partner with leaders in Recruiting, HR, Finance, Operations, and Marketing to understand challenges and implement data-driven, tech-forward solutions that improve performance and reduce friction.
  • Systems Architecture & Integration:
Oversee the unification and optimization of technology platforms (HRIS, ERP, CRM, inventory systems, etc.) to ensure seamless data flow and reporting accuracy across the organization.
  • Data Analytics & Insights:
Build a robust data culture, using analytics, dashboards, and predictive models to drive strategic decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Cybersecurity & Compliance:
Ensure systems and processes maintain the highest standards of security, privacy, and compliance with healthcare and employment regulations.
  • Leadership & Team Development:
Build and mentor a growing technology team that is curious, innovative, and solutions-driven. Foster a culture of experimentation, agility, and accountability.

What You Bring

  • Proven leadership experience in technology or innovation within a multi-location or healthcare-related organization.
  • Expertise in AI implementation, automation, and data systems integration.
  • Strong background in systems architecture, cloud infrastructure, SaaS selection, and digital transformation, windows domain environments, firewalls and computer networking, and robust enterprise back-up solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to align technology strategy with business goals and measurable outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills — able to partner across departments and translate technical concepts into business impact.
  • Strategic mindset balanced with a roll-up-your-sleeves approach to execution.

Why Veterinary United

  • Family-owned, independent culture that prioritizes people and innovation.
  • Opportunity to build something transformative: shaping the future of technology in veterinary medicine.
  • Collaborative executive team and mission-driven leadership.
  • A chance to lead AI adoption in one of Michigan’s fastest-growing independent veterinary organizations.
