The Child Advocacy Center of Niagara, located at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center is looking for a Case Coordinator to join the team

NATURE AND SCOPE: The Case Coordinator provides victim support and advocacy services to children and family members; assist participants in the Center’s multidisciplinary team; coordinate and monitor case progress; maintain client files; and assist in the coordination of multi-agency case review.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Implements Child Advocacy Center policies and procedures to provide Child Advocacy Center services to child clients and non-offending family members.
  • Coordinates Center services with participating agencies including child protection, law enforcement, prosecutors, medical and mental health personnel.
  • Provides crisis assessment and intervention, risk assessment, and safety planning and support for children and family members at all stages of involvement with CAC.
  • Conducts assessment of individual needs and cultural considerations for the child and family to ensure those needs are addressed.
  • Participates in information sharing related to the forensic interview; informs and supports the family about the coordinated, multidisciplinary response; and assesses needs of child and non-offending caregiver.
  • Provides education and access to victims’ rights and crime victims’ compensation.
  • Assists family to procure needed services such as housing, protective orders, domestic violence intervention, food, transportation, public assistance and health care
  • Provides referrals for specialized, trauma focused, evidence supported mental health and medical treatment when not provided at the CAC.
  • Assists clients to secure transportation to interviews, court, treatment and other case-related meetings in conjunction with the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Victim Assistance Unit and the New York State Police Victim Advocate.
  • Participates in case review in order to discuss the unique needs of the child and family and plan associated support services, ensure the seamless coordination of services, and ensure the child and family’s concerns are heard and addressed.
  • Provides updates to the family on case status, continuances, dispositions, sentencing, and inmate notification status (including offender release from custody).
  • Coordinates victim services with Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Victim Assistance Unit, the New York State Police Victim Advocate and other relevant service providers.
  • Communicates effectively and functions in a collaborative manner within all levels of the organization, with participating agencies and within the community.
  • Maintains documentation and data collection for CAC cases.
  • Participates in community and professional coalitions.
  • Promotes team cohesiveness and development with members of Niagara County multidisciplinary child abuse team (CAIP).
  • Provides coordination, victim support and advocacy services to adult and child victims presenting to the NFMMC emergency department or other NFMMC departments as requested.

REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of appropriate social work, victim support and advocacy skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; flexibility in scheduling; ability to work in high stress environment. Strong organization skills. Occasional travel between office locations.

EDUCATION:

A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or the equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of two years case management or direct service preferred

Experience with issues related to trauma, child abuse, domestic violence, legal proceedings and crisis intervention preferred

Experience with children and families preferred

Experience working with social services, legal, medical and mental health professionals in multidisciplinary capacity preferred

Knowledge of trauma and the principles of trauma-informed care preferred.

The Child Advocacy Center of Niagara exists to provide a comprehensive response to children experiencing abuse.

It's a multi-disciplinary program that responds to reports of physical and sexual child abuse by coordinating a unified response by criminal justice, medical and mental health services professionals at a single location.

Prosecutors, police officers, child protection workers, therapists, victim advocates and medical professionals work together to investigate allegations and to reduce the trauma for children reported as victims by:

Providing a comfortable, child-friendly environment for interviews and other services

Reducing the number of times the child is interviewed

Arranging medical, mental health and victim advocacy services.

Salary: $45,500 - $47,775 yearly
