Childcare Associate

Overview
We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Childcare Associates at the Tuscarawas County YMCA. This part time position is essential in providing a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for youth in Kindergarten through 8th grade. Childcare Associates help facilitate educational and recreational activities that promote learning, teamwork, and personal growth while ensuring the safety and well being of all participants.

This role can support three areas of childcare programming: Afterschool Care (2:30pm–6pm), School Days Off program (7am–6pm), and Summer Day Camp (7am–6pm), all Monday through Friday. Specific hours and days may vary based on childcare staffing needs, with a maximum of 8 hours per day. Applicants who are available for summer camp only are also encouraged to apply. A typical afterschool shift is 2:30pm–6pm.

This position is onsite at the Tuscarawas County YMCA and includes the benefit of a free family YMCA membership during employment. Ideal candidates have a passion for working with children, demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills, and are committed to creating a positive and inclusive environment for all youth.

Responsibilities:

1. Plans, develops and implements weekly lesson plans that fit the children’s needs, interests and developmental levels in the classroom.

2. Works cooperatively with Lead Teacher, Site Administrator, other staff and partners.

3. Documents attendance, absenteeism, transitions, minor disciplines and incidents for each child in the classroom.

4. Is responsible for all aspects of the appearance and management of their classroom/designated program/outside areas. Maintains the quality of supplies, materials, and equipment in the room in a neat and orderly fashion.

5. Reports any broken or unsafe toys and properly disinfects toys and equipment on a regular basis in accordance with the state regulations.

6. Conducts the program in accordance with Ohio Department of Children and Youth (DCY) guidelines.

7. Possesses working knowledge of child abuse and neglect laws and follows proper reporting procedures.

8. Handles discipline promptly and in accordance with the stated discipline policy. Documents and reports to the supervisor any special needs or problems of an individual child, staff or parent.

9. Attends in-service training events as required by Department of Children and Youth (DCY) regulations, continued professional development through community involvement, reading and/or further education.

10. Maintains appropriate records for consumers.

11. Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.

12. Attend required abuse risk management trainings.

13. Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.

14. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

15. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

16. Maintains appropriate certifications and records for YMCA and OCCRRA.

17. Attends designated trainings and staff meetings.

18. Performs other duties as assigned.

19. Be available for working scheduled school day’s off and snow days in addition to afterschool hours.

Experience

  • Previous experience working with children in settings such as daycare, camps, or schools is preferred.
  • Familiarity with special education practices and techniques is advantageous.
  • Skills in classroom management and behavior management are highly valued.
  • Experience in tutoring, sports coaching, theater, or childcare will enhance your application.
  • A background in early childhood education is a plus.
