Circulation Assistant (Sat, Sun, and Monday)
Position Summary
This position is for Saturday 10:45am to 5pm, Sunday 12:45pm to 10pm, and Monday 9am to 5pm.
In this position you will:
Assist patrons while providing excellent customer service. Manage the public service functions of the circulating collections of the Library: circulating library materials, assist with basic library statistics associated with circulation, assist with reserve collection, clean as needed, assist student workers in their daily tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain excellent customer service standards, including the ability to engage, interact and communicate with patience, clarity, tact, and courtesy.
- Assist patrons with catalog searches, database help, and general reference questions.
- Maintain patron records, maintain paper and toner/ink cartridges in copiers and printers; check to ensure the machines are functioning properly.
- Shelving books
- Helping patrons
- Clean areas of the library
- Perform opening and closing procedures when needed.
- Performs all circulation desk duties
- Check materials in/out/renew materials
- Assist with reserve materials
- Issues new patron ID cards/TexShare
- Other duties as assigned
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
- Some college preferred
Experience
- Customer service experience preferred
- Library experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of library practices, procedures, and techniques.
- Knowledge of standard filing practices
- Knowledge of basic computer systems
- Proficiency with an integrated administrative system and current software programs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully work in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work creatively in a rapidly changing environment.
- Ability to learn a variety of procedures.
- Ability to file and use library equipment including the online catalog and automation system.
- Ability to understand the role and the purpose of the library.
- Ability to pay attention to accuracy even with many work interruptions.
- Ability to be a self-starter who is detail oriented.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, while complying with FERPA regulations.
- Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with a diverse group of library users.
- Ability to maintain a neat & professional appearance and office atmosphere
