Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Design and Planning:
- Develop and prepare detailed designs for roads, highways, bridges, and related infrastructure, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Conduct feasibility studies, traffic flow analysis, and environmental impact assessments.
- Develop project specifications, including materials, construction methods, and cost estimates.
- Coordinate with other engineers, architects, urban planners, and stakeholders to ensure that designs meet functional and safety requirements.
2. Construction Supervision:
- Oversee and manage road construction projects, ensuring that work is carried out according to design specifications, within budget, and on schedule.
- Monitor construction progress, quality, and safety on site, ensuring that all activities comply with regulations and safety standards.
- Conduct site inspections and resolve any technical issues that arise during construction.
- Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
3. Quality Control and Assurance:
- Implement quality control procedures to monitor the construction work's adherence to design standards and specifications.
- Perform tests on materials such as asphalt, concrete, and soil to ensure they meet required quality standards.
- Address any issues or deficiencies identified during quality checks and suggest corrective measures.
4. Project Management:
- Manage budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of projects.
- Prepare progress reports and presentations for senior management and stakeholders.
- Ensure all documentation, including contracts, permits, and reports, is completed accurately and on time.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certification (e.g., PE, CEng) is often preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in civil engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS).
- Strong knowledge of road design, construction methods, and materials.
- Understanding of traffic flow, road safety, and environmental impact assessments.
- Familiarity with construction codes, local regulations, and industry standards.
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in road construction or a related field is often required.
- Experience with project management, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Experience with contract negotiation, site supervision, and working with contractors and vendors.
