The Civil Engineer – Data Centers is responsible for the planning, design coordination, execution, and supervision of all civil and structural works associated with data center developments. The role ensures that civil infrastructure is delivered in compliance with contractual requirements, international standards, local authority regulations, and the unique operational and resilience demands of mission‑critical data center facilities.



Key Responsibilitie

Design & Technical Responsibilities

  • Review, coordinate, and manage civil and structural designs for data center projects, including earthworks, foundations, superstructure, external works, and underground utilities
  • Ensure designs accommodate data center–specific requirements such as high floor loading, vibration control, equipment plinths, trenches, and future scalability
  • Coordinate civil interfaces with MEP, ICT, and specialist systems (electrical, cooling, fuel systems, and underground services)
  • Review and approve shop drawings, method statements, and material submittals related to civil works
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards, authority requirements, and project specifications

Construction & Site Supervision

  • Supervise and monitor civil works on site to ensure quality, safety, and schedule compliance
  • Manage contractors and subcontractors, ensuring adherence to approved drawings, specifications, and construction methodologies
  • Inspect works, witness tests, and manage snagging, punch lists, and handover activities
  • Ensure accurate implementation and recording of as‑built drawings and site records

Data Center–Specific Responsibilities

  • Coordinate civil scope related to data halls, equipment yards, loading bays, security perimeters, and external infrastructure
  • Ensure civil works support operational resilience, redundancy, and uptime requirements
  • Interface with MEP‑related infrastructure layouts (trenches, plinths, access routes) where applicable
  • Support commissioning readiness from a civil and structural standpoint

Health, Safety & Quality

  • Ensure compliance with HSE requirements, safe working practices, and project safety plans
  • Participate in risk assessments, method statement reviews, and site safety audits
  • Ensure works comply with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 / OHSAS requirements where applicable

Project Controls & Coordination

  • Support project planning, sequencing, and coordination with other disciplines
  • Identify and manage civil‑related risks, design clashes, and constructability issues
  • Assist with cost control, variations, and technical clarifications
  • Coordinate with consultants, authorities, and client representatives as required


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
  • Professional certification or chartership (preferred)
  • Training in data center design or mission‑critical facilities is an advantage


Experience

  • Minim um 5–7 ye ars of civil engineering experience, wi th proven data center project expos ure (hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise)
  • Strong experience in reinforced concrete structures, foundations, and external works
  • Experience working in the UAE or GCC with local authorities and regulations
  • Familiarity with fast‑track or design‑and‑build delivery models.


Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of data center civil and structural requirements
  • Ability to manage multiple interfaces and complex coordination
  • Excellent site supervision and contractor management skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; familiarity with BIM environments is an advantage
  • Strong communication, reporting, and documentation skills
