The purpose of this job is to support the mission of the Columbia Police Department through collecting, analyzing, and documenting information related to criminal, internal, and pre-employment investigations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. - Collects, compiles, and analyzes applicant information, including data gathered from interviews and references.

Completes applicant background check. Investigates employment history, educational background, residential history, and military service.

Performs follow-up investigations of crimes either independently or as a member of a police team.

Prepares case documentation for filing with the prosecuting attorney and presents case evidence in Court as required.

Collects, compiles, analyzes and disseminates intelligence information related to criminal activity and other jurisdictions that may adversely affect the city.

Identifies, collects, documents and preserves physical evidence found at crime scenes for the purposes of further examination and presentation in court.

Assists Police Administration in maintaining the public trust by conducting administrative investigations of officers involved in criminal activities, use of force incidents, or violations of departmental policies.

Hours/Days
Generally Monday thru Friday 8 hrs per day, with some flexibility in start/end times.
Starting Salary
$22.91-$28.18 per hour (commensurate w/ experience) and shift differential of $1.00 per hour for all hours worked between 6 pm to 6 am.
