Summary:
The Claims Supervisor will effectively manage and supervise claims and provide overall direction to adjusters, defense counsel and Members to bring claims to an acceptable resolution with respect to Signal claims policy as promulgated by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise adjusters claims handling in accordance with guidelines and criteria established.
  • Provide direction with respect to jurisdictional issues and provide guidance on acceptance or controversy of claims.
  • Able to maintain a timely diary and supervise a full caseload.
  • Provide effective service in a professional and courteous manner to Members in response to claims issues and information requests.
  • Coordinate and direct resolution of claims, including authorization of lump sum settlements, acceptance of stipulations, waiver of liens, pursuit or waiver of Second Injury
  • Fund relief and resolution of all issues in global settlements, as outlined in the supervisory guidelines and reserve/settlement authority granted.
  • Approve recommended reserves and guide adjusters for setting reserves in accordance with Signal reserving guidelines.
  • Provide assessment and recommendation for potential LTC candidates for consideration of transfer to LTA accounts, review of policy year closures and prior to renewal.
  • Approve assignment of defense counsel as required after consideration of adjuster and/or Member and legal coordinator.
  • Assist with training and mentorship of adjusters.
  • Coordinate and attend Claim Reviews, Member meetings and on-site visits.
  • Prepare, organize, and deliver training and presentations as needed.
  • Serve as contact for emergencies and/or after hours claims as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Core Competencies

  • Employee should demonstrate proficiency in a variety of claims management concepts and practices and have knowledge of general insurance procedures and workers’ compensation benefits.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within claims management field. Relies on experience and judgment to interpret policies and procedures as established by senior management. Works under limited supervision and has the authority and responsibility to make decisions to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Employee must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such a level as determined in the Company’s sole discretion; ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrive at meetings and appointments on time and notify the team in case of emergencies or scheduled time off.
  • Display strong interpersonal skills and work co-operatively with others to achieve a common goal.
  • Show adaptability, initiative, and dependability and must maintain absolute confidentiality with respect to the Company’s proprietary information.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing demands, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, perform under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong decision-making abilities, exhibit sound and accurate judgement for duties as
  • outlined regarding claims resolution.
  • Ability to understand written and oral communication and to interpret documents, such as workers’ compensation regulations and forms, medical and legal reports, and the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act. Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, both orally and in writing, and to prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Proficiency in responding effectively to requests for information.
  • Employee will be required to work such hours as may be necessary for the efficient and conscientious performance of the essential functions of the position

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five to seven years’ related claims experience, Longshore experience preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $115,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
